Wendy Counes' '74 digger Shovel

I like this style of bike. The shortened front end, mags and digger fender make me think
of those classic Iron Horse feature bikes from the NY garages of builders like
Steg, Indian Larry and English Don in the early nineties. This cool shovel (before and after paint) belongs to Wendy Counes.

She says: "I bought this bike in a bunch of pieces. First thing we did was send off the motor to get cleaned up
(trans too) and bored to 80". We cut the frame up, ground down useless tabs and whatnot. Moved
the shocks back a little to accommodate my short legs. Added a wideglide front end, which had been shortened
by a couple inches (one of George's from an old pan he had laying around).

I welded the back fender to the swing arm. A friend donated the oil bag (which is still raw
metal). Traded some misc parts for a couple stock mag wheels and had them polished.
Cut the primary cover to have an open belt. (of course, I had to leave the top of the primary cover
intact to enable using an electric start).

As a side note, my first HD was a 1960 XLCH ironhead. Could not kick her to save my life.
SHE WAS A BITCH!!! Hence, the electric start was mandatory!! All in all it was a fun project and nothing too fancy.
It used to be pink and tangerine. However, due to the "used" tank I had on it before
that leaked continually, I had a friend repaint it!

Took it on the El Diablo Run this past March and I am happy to report that out of
the 12+ bikes that came from AZ and NM, mine was one of 5 that made it the whole way with no problems!!
I really love your website and hope that you continue to post new stuff. I know you sort of took a hiatus
but I'm glad you are back! Thanks!! Wendy."
